“As we like to say, it came out of left field,” Nancy Chan, the animal park’s communications manager, told KTRE. “The Giants called us about setting something up with Brandon Belt and our giraffes and we just so happened to have one born, so we decided to name it after him.”
Brandon the giraffe was born just before noon on Friday and is the second offspring of seven-year-old Makali. The giraffe calf, already 6’2”, is expected to outgrow the six-foot-five Giant well before reaching adult height, 18 feet.
The baby giraffes will meet for the first time this week.
The baby giraffes are supposed to meet this week? Adorable.
Posey, Cody, Torres (2), Casilla, Freddy, Zito, Wilson, Beltran, Romo, Fontenot, Tejada, Burrell, Rowand, Panda, Belt, Ford, Burris, Schierholtz, and now Johnny S. I want to cry, how many injuries can you have in a year!?
You may think there is hyperbole in the above headline, but let me assure, there is not. You have never seen anything more pathetic at the Major League level and, quite possibly, at the Little League level. Jeff Sullivan has put together all the gifs you’ll need to truly appreciate the historic moment.
